La Esperanto-Klubo de Hampton Roads ne kunvenos ĉi-dimanĉe, pro Jon, Majk, Niĉjo ĉeestos Urba Semajnfino 2 Riĉmonde.

Ni rekunvenos, kiel kutime, en la 8-a de aprilo. Ĝis tiam!

The Esperanto Club of Hampton Roads won’t be meeting this Sunday, because Jon, Mike, and Nick will be at Urba Semajnfino 2 (City Weekend 2) in Richmond.

We’ll meet again, as usual, on April 8th. See you then!

Two of our members, Nick (Niĉjo) Woods and Mike (Majk) Patten, attended the City Weekend arranged by Chuck Smith, which took place in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on the weekend before Thanksgiving weekend. Read more about it here: Fun Esperanto Weekend in Harrisburg.

No meetings Nov 20 or 27

The Esperanto Club of Hampton Roads won’t be meeting on November 20th or 27th, because of the Harrisburg City Weekend meeting, and the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. We’ll resume our normal schedule on December 4th at 7:00 pm at Fair Grounds Coffee.

We’ll be attending a regional meeting of the Esperanto Society of Carolina and Virginia in Burlington, North Carolina on Saturday, August 13th, and so will not be meeting at Fair Grounds the next day. We’ll resume our regular schedule on August 21st.

The Esperanto Club of Hampton Roads meets most Sunday evenings at 7pm, at Fair Grounds Coffee in Norfolk, at the corner of Colley and Baldwin Avenues. We don’t meet on holiday weekends or during national or regional Esperanto events. Meetings are informal, and friendly, and generally last about an hour-and-a-half, and visitors are most welcome. Just listen for the people speaking a funny language… you’ll find us!

La Esperanto-Klubo de Hampton Roads kunvenos en la plejparto de dimanĉaj vesperoj je 19:00, ĉe Kafejo Fair Grounds, en Norfolko, ĉe la angulo de avenuoj Colley kaj Baldwin. Ni ne kunvenas dem festtagaj semajnfinoj nek dum naciaj aŭ regionaj kongresoj. Kunvenoj estas neformalaj kaj amikecaj, kaj kutime daŭras dum unu horo k duono. Visitantoj estas tre bonvenitaj. Nur aúskultu la fremdan lingvon… vi malkovros nin!

The Esperanto Club of Hampton Roads has been on hiatus for a few months. However, we will begin meeting again soon, probably on October 17, 2010 at FairGrounds Coffee at 7:00 pm. (Any changes will be posted here.) See you there!

La Esperanto-Klubo de Hampton Roads ne kunvenis antaŭ kelkaj monatoj. Tamen, ĝi rekomencos kunvenadi baldaŭ, probable en 17 Oktobro 2010, ĉe Kafejo FairGrounds je 7:00 ptm. (Se ŝanĝoj, estos leĝeble ĉi tie.) Ĝis tiam!

“Fekkai:” It won’t sell in Esperantoland

Years ago, Chevrolet created a marketing disaster with the Chevy Nova. Although its sales were decent in the US, in Latin America it was almost unsellable. Finally marketing analysts realized that the name was a huge problem; in Spanish, No va means “It doesn’t go”!

Now comes the Fekkai line of hair care products. They may well be successful wherever sold, but one particular demographic will probably think twice before purchasing; to Esperantists around the world, fekaj (pronounced the same way) literally means “shitty”!

Antaŭ kelkaj jaroj, Chevrolet kreis fuŝan aŭto-merkatigon je la marko Chevy Nova. Kvankam usone, ĝia vendiĝis sufiĉe bone, en Latin-Ameriko, ĝi estis preskaŭ ne vendebla. Fine, la merkatigaj analizistoj malkovris ke la problemon estis la nomo: en la hispana, No va volis diri “Ĝi ne iras”!

Jen la Fekkai linio de harproduktoj. Eble ili sukcesos ĉie, sed estas homgrupo kiu probable hezitos pri la aĉeto de ĝi; al Esperantistoj tutmonde, “Fekkai” signifas “fekaj”!
